  • Fundraising for the Sensory Garden

    Published 18/06/21

This year we have signed up to the Social Action Challenge to make a change!

The sensory garden for our pupils is in need of updating, and our Key Stage 5 pupils wanted to do something about it. They have worked hard to put together a plan so that the artwork can be updated to represent the year the world has had; to add a sheltered area so they can still sit out there in the rain; and they are looking to plant some beautifully scented flowers and install a working water feature. A sensory garden for our pupils improves their physical fitness, health, mood and cognition, but to do this, we need to raise the funds for them to start work on their plan.

Gardening and plant care help the students develop gross and fine motor skills, and the time outdoors, breathing fresh air, and being exposed to sunlight are extremely beneficial to the children's development of self-regulation.  The students are wanting to do all the updating themselves, painting, creating and planting, they just need to raise the money to buy the resources.

Our second team are also wanting to make a change in our local community, they haven't started their journey yet but are looking at providing the local community information about Autism and their journey.

If you would like to make a donation to our sensory garden fund, please visit our JustGiving page!

We will be keeping you posted on the work, so watch this space!

    Published 15/12/20

I am very pleased to say that artwork by year 8 and 9 is now on display in the Take One Picture exhibition at the National Gallery. The exhibition runs until the 31st January 2021 and is held in the Sunley Room.

Congratulations to the students for all of the work that went into their projects, and we are delighted to be able to finally showcase and celebrate their work in the exhibition.

We know that we won't be able to go to see the exhibition at the Gallery this year, so the Gallery has included as much information online as possible. The following link will take you to the ‘Explore the exhibition’ page, with information, photographs and a video which shows what some children think about Men of the Docks:

  • Remembrance Display

    Published 12/11/20

This year the pupils have created an amazing display for Remembrance.   Pupils and staff all received a wooden poppy which they either decorated or wrote a message on. Key Stage 5 pupils then collected them all up and three of our pupils, Kieran, Jay & Alex put together the display which has been set up in Reception at the Wrotham site.

The whole school has been involved in creating the display, with Erin, Cody and Daisy making the wooden poppies, Christopher for making the cross and Lucy for making the wreath in Floristry.

Along with the rest of the county, we also acknowledged the two minutes’ silence at 11 o’clock.

  • Harvest October 2020

    Published 22/10/20

The collection for Harvest Festival this year has been amazing, thank so you much to all our students and their families and staff for all of your contributions.

This year due to the pandemic we have been unable to take part in our annual Harvest Festival at the local church. Yet we still wanted to make the students aware, design boxes and donate locally. We had a range of year groups decorating and filling boxes from both our Wrotham and Stanstead sites.

Thank you again for all your contributions, they will go a long way!

  • World Mental Health Day

    Published 09/10/20

As today marks World Mental Health day, we are supporting Young Minds charity by raising awareness of looking after our Mental Health and Wellbeing.

Pupils have spent the week thinking about the 5 areas of Wellbeing; Take notice, Connect, Time for you, Give and Be active. They have identified things that they do and would like to try in each area and tried hard to get their ‘5 a day’. These have ranged from spending more time with pets to knitting to texting old friends.

    # Hello Yellow is the work of the Young Minds charity to raise awareness of looking after young peoples mental health. As part of this, pupils have spent time decorating yellow t-shirts with positive wellbeing messages.
